LA FLOR DE NOCHEBUENA (N. MacNaughton)
There was a senorita
Long, long ago
Her name was Pepita
And she lived in Mexico
On Christmas Eve she followed
The procession to her church
But she stopped at the door
For she had no gift for the Lord
Her friend saw she was crying
And asked, where was her smile?
Pepita said to Pedro,
I have nothing for the child!
He told her not worry
That Jesus would be pleased
It’s a gift from her heart
That God will surely find worthwhile
The young girl gathered weeds
From the edges of the road
And brought them to the altar
It was all she had to show
But the crowd was filled with wonder
When the weeds turned scarlet red, they said:
La flor de nochebuena es un milagro de Dios!
Her weeds became a poinsettia, a miracle of God!
La flor de nochebuena es un milagro de Dios!
